El Salvador’s only international airport is Comalapa International Airport or Cuscatlán International Airport (SAL; tel. 503/2339-9455;, 44km (27 miles) south of San Salvador. It is a major, 17-gate international hub with daily flights from the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America. The airport serves more than 2 million passengers per year and includes numerous rental-car companies, hotel information booths, duty-free shops, and restaurants. All departing international passengers must pay a $32 departure tax, although this may already be included in your flight ticket.
